DUIMP: What changes in Brazilian imports under the new Siscomex process

The Single Import Declaration (DUIMP) modernizes Brazil’s import process. Migration from the Import Declaration (DI) to DUIMP is gradual and depends on the type of operation, transport mode, government agencies, and exceptions listed in the official Siscomex schedule.

What is DUIMP?

DUIMP is a single digital document that consolidates information previously spread across multiple forms. It brings commercial, tax, administrative, and foreign-exchange data into one electronic record.

Main changes

1. Services and API integrations

The Single Window provides XML and JSON services according to the purpose and documentation of each API. In DUIMP flows, structured JSON data can simplify modern integrations, but this does not mean every Portal service has abandoned XML.

2. Product Catalog

Each DUIMP item must correspond to an item in the company’s Product Catalog. The catalog may be prepared in advance or completed while the declaration is being drafted and registered; under the official flow, information entered directly in DUIMP may also be recorded automatically in the catalog.

3. Automated tax settlement

Some taxes can be settled automatically when DUIMP is registered, helping speed up customs clearance.

4. Integration with PUCOMEX

PUCOMEX, Brazil’s Single Foreign Trade Portal, brings government agencies together and simplifies the importer’s interaction with public authorities.
