Suzano joins Imetame's port project in Aracruz
Suzano reached an agreement to acquire a 10% stake in Imetame Logística Porto, with consideration provided through making its own land available. The project will have five terminals and will begin operating in phases from 2027.
Suzano entered into an agreement with Grupo Imetame to take a 10% stake in Imetame Logística Porto, the company responsible for building a port in Barra do Riacho, in the municipality of Aracruz, Espírito Santo. The project is expected to open in 2027 and represents the paper and pulp manufacturer’s entry into the venture’s ownership structure.
The stake will be formed through making land owned by Suzano available, located in areas considered strategic for the project. The transaction will not involve a cash payment and, according to the information released, no capex associated with the stake is expected in 2026. The company also said that the transaction does not change the operational or economic performance of its Aracruz unit.
The port was planned to bring together five operating fronts: containers, general cargo, dry bulk, liquid bulk, and ship-to-ship activities. The first phase is expected to begin with general-cargo handling, scheduled for early 2027. The remaining terminals will be added as the development schedule advances.
In the container area, the project has a joint venture in which Hanseatic Global Terminals, Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal division, holds 50%. This operation is scheduled for mid-2028 and could reach a future capacity of 1.2 million TEUs per year, with 750 meters of quay and a depth of 17 meters.
For Suzano, the agreement combines its experience in port logistics with the transformation of its own land into a stake in an infrastructure asset. The company believes the project could become a logistics platform focused on Brazilian foreign trade.
